Insulation

Keep the warmth in and the cold out! Insulating your home is still a powerful method of saving both energy and money. At James Frew, our accredited and reliable insulation and heating technicians will take this to new heights for you.

Loft Insulation

Around 25% of heat is lost through the roof. Loft insulation is a barrier of material installed between the joists or in the rafters and is a great way to improve heat retention and save on energy bills. Insulating an uninsulated loft with 270mm of loft insulation can help you save over £500 on energy bills per year.

Room In Roof Insulation

Like loft insulation, Room In Roof insulation (RIR) will act as a barrier to keep the heat down in your home where it belongs. If you are currently using your loft or attic space as a living area, then we can secure the funding for RIR insulation. We can make sure that all areas are fully insulated, maximising the energy efficiency of the space utilised.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Around 35% of heat is lost through uninsulated walls. Cavity wall insulation fills the gap between your external and internal walls, providing a barrier between the cold outside and your warm home. Adding this type of insulation is essential in saving energy and cavity wall insulation can help you save over £600 per year on your energy bills.

Heat Pumps

What are Air Source Heat Pumps?

An air source heat pump, sometimes referred to as an air-to-water source heat pump, transfers heat from the outside air to water, which heats your rooms via radiators or underfloor heating. Installing an air source heat pump is a low-maintenance solution that will reduce carbon emissions and save money on your heating bills. They work in a comparable way to a fridge or air conditioning system, the difference being that they produce warm air. Air source heat pumps still generate heat even when outside air temperatures are as low as -15°C.

Energy Savings Trust explains how the heat pump absorbs the heat from outside air into a refrigerant. This is then compressed within the model to increase the temperature, providing both heat and hot water into your home.

Boilers

An energy-efficient modern boiler can reduce fuel consumption and your household’s carbon footprint. Upgrading your boiler can provide more consistent and even heating, along with an improved hot water supply. New boilers have a longer lifespan, require less maintenance, and come with more advanced safety features.

Condensing Boilers

Gas boilers are the most used heating in the UK and many of them are inefficient models. When spending our income on our energy bills, we want to ensure we can reduce the amount we spend as much as we can – a highly efficient boiler is the most efficient way to do so.

Combi Boilers

This type contains most of the required components of a heating system within the boiler itself meaning there is no longer the need for tanks around your house taking up space. Combi boilers provide hot water on demand.

Heat Only Boilers

This boiler stores hot water in a tank making it more suitable for larger properties due to its ability to provide hot water for multiple taps and showers.

System Boilers

This type of boiler is commonly found in larger homes with greater demands for heating and hot water. By featuring a separate cylinder for storing water, system boilers can provide a constant supply of hot water throughout the home, unlike combi boilers which can only heat water on demand.

Solid Wall Insulation

Solid wall homes are especially vulnerable to heat loss due to their design and construction materials. Make sure the heat stays in your home with solid wall insulation. James Frew can assist you in gaining funding for solid wall properties and can secure it for your home for both Internal & External Wall Insulation.

First Time Central Heating

James Frew is fully accredited to upgrade your heating and install a central heating system. Converting properties from electric or other off-gas heating sources will help reduce carbon emissions. It will also make your home a more comfortable and efficient place to live in. A first-time central heating installation will include the boiler, radiators and all pipework. We can also include standard or smart heating controls.

If your property doesn’t have (and has never had) central heating and you have a gas connection prior to April 2022, you may be able to switch from your current heating to a full central heating system with a grant secured by James Frew. Contact us to find out more.

Heating Controls

Traditional thermostats will allow you to change the temperature in your home and with TRV’s (thermostat radiator valve) located on each radiator, you can control the temperature in each room using the dials.

SMART heating controls allows for the same functions, but remotely. This means you can give your heating time schedules to come on and off itself – saving you energy by not having the heating on in an empty house.

Solar Panels

What are Solar Panels?

Solar Panels, also known as Solar Photovoltaics (PV), are one of the most popular choices for renewable energy. With energy prices continuing to rise, solar panels offer customers the chance to reduce costs by making use of renewable energy.

Solar Panels work by capturing the solar radiation (energy) that is given off from the sun and converting it into electricity. The PV cells within the panels do not need direct sunlight to generate electricity which allow them to work even on cloudier days.

Why install Solar Panels?

Solar Panels allow you to generate your own electricity, and with the prices rising, this is a great method of keeping your bills down. Requiring a little maintenance once installed, you can sit back and reap the benefits.
