Can I get both a grant and a loan?

The grant helps cover part of the cost of your energy-efficient upgrade (like insulation or a heat pump), and the loan can top up any remaining amount if the grant doesn’t fully cover it. The loan is repaid over time with no added interest, making the improvements more accessible and affordable. All loans are subject to basic affordability and credit checks as part of the approval process.

What kind of energy-efficiency improvements are covered?

You may be eligible for funding to install clean heating systems such as air source heat pumps or solar panels, which lower carbon emissions while keeping your home warm and comfortable. Grant funding can also cover a wide range of insulation upgrades, including loft insulation, solid wall insulation, and underfloor insulation, helping to reduce heat loss and improve overall efficiency. If your windows are outdated, you may also be able to upgrade from single glazing to double glazing as part of your energy-saving improvements. Solar panels with battery storage and smart heating controls are also commonly supported. During your free home energy survey, we’ll assess your property’s needs and recommend the most effective measures based on your eligibility and current setup.

How long does it take?

From initial survey to final installation, most projects are completed within 4–8 weeks. We’ll start by asking a few questions to check if your home is suitable for upgrades. Then, a qualified surveyor from our team will carry out a free home energy assessment to identify the right improvements for your property. If you wish to apply for funding, we’ll explain what steps to take next and what information you’ll need. For impartial advice and to explore your eligibility for financial support, we’ll direct you to Home Energy Scotland, who can guide you through the application process. Once your funding is approved, we’ll work with you to schedule the installation at a convenient time. You typically have up to nine months to complete the work after receiving a funding offer.

I’m a landlord — can I apply?

Yes, private landlords in Scotland are eligible to apply for these grants and loans too. Whether you rent out a single property or manage multiple, energy-efficient upgrades can help improve your EPC rating, reduce your tenants’ heating costs, and increase your property’s long-term value. We’ll guide you through the entire process and tailor our advice to the specific needs of your property, ensuring you stay compliant with energy standards while also making energy efficiency improvements.

Are rural households eligible for energy grants?

Yes. Many rural households in Scotland are eligible and may even qualify for extra support if they live in a rural area, are off-grid, or have hard-to-treat properties. Our team can check your eligibility during your free survey and guide you through the options available.

What is the maximum funding I can get through Home Energy Scotland grants and loans?

The exact amount you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, the type of upgrade, and the current financial support available, but as a general guide:

Grants of up to £7,500 are available for eligible energy efficiency measures like insulation, heat pumps, and heating controls.
If you qualify for rural uplift, rural households may receive up to £9,000 in maximum grant funding.
If the grant doesn’t cover the full cost, you may also be able to apply for an interest-free loan of up to £38,000 to cover the remainder, depending on the upgrades selected.
