Back in 1988, James Frew employed around 110 employees with a turnover of around £5Million. In those days, the Ford Escort was Britain’s bestselling car, Luton Town beat Arsenal in the Littlewoods Cup Final, and in the June of the year, Danny Gibson started with James Frew as Trainee Surveyor.
Danny enrolled on ScotVec Buildings Technicians course and completed a HNC in Construction Surveying at Glasgow College of Building and Printing. Danny worked under the guidance and supervision of Director Hugh McKail who was very much an inspirational figure in Danny’s blossoming career. Danny was an apprentice to Gordon Orr, a fact he remembers well. As Danny recalls, he was often reminded of his apprenticeship – even as recently as last April!
Danny’s career progressed and blossomed within our MPS business unit, resulting in him being appointed Operations Director in 2021. He played a significant role in developing close industry relationships with our key partners resulting in a healthy order book.
Managing Director Roddy Frew said: “I have known and worked with Danny for over 30 years. He was a key member of my team, his contributions to the success of James Frew Ltd cannot be understated.”
Senior Quantity Surveyor Pamela Affleck said: “Danny was very giving with his time and played a significant part in developing the skills and knowledge of the people who worked closely with him.”
To celebrate Danny’s retirement, we held a heartfelt office presentation where former colleagues and mentors gathered to celebrate his remarkable career. The occasion was filled with warm wishes, thoughtful advice, and shared memories. Danny was presented with meaningful gifts from his colleagues, making it a truly special send-off.
We wish Danny all the best as he embraces new adventures, including his plans for travelling and exploring the next exciting chapter of his life.
