When apprentice Marti Bell faced an uncertain future after his previous employer lost critical ECO funding, James Frew stepped in to help ensure his apprenticeship could continue.
Marti, from Newton Stewart, joined James Frew on 24 February 2026 after Dumfries and Galloway College approached us regarding his situation. Due to funding challenges, his former employer was no longer able to retain him, putting his apprenticeship at risk.
Fortunately, James Frew could help. With ongoing works across the McTaggart Construction contracts in Stranraer, the opportunity arose to bring Marti into the team and support him through the remainder of his apprenticeship. Having someone local to the area who was already committed to developing his skills within the industry, made it an easy decision.
Since joining the company, Marti has been working across both McTaggart contracts in Stranraer and has quickly established himself as a valued member of the team.

“When I found out I was being made redundant, I was worried about what it would mean for my apprenticeship and my future in the industry. I’m truly grateful to Dumfries and Galloway College and James Frew for providing me with the opportunity to continue my apprenticeship. Everyone has been very supportive, and I’ve settled into the team well.”
